La Roca
Church
Ecuador
How did we help with the building work?
During 2006 and 2007 we held a number of events to raise money for the building work being
done on the La Roca church. Then, at the end of October, 5 of us went out to visit the church
and to help with some of the building work.
This is a picture of where we were at the start of the week...

... and for comparison, here is how we left it.
We were helping to build what will be rooms for the children's work at the side of the church, with the pastors flat above.
It might not look a big difference but a lot of work went into it!

We had helped dig the four holes for the foundations of the pillars...
The holes were deep, so were tricky to get in and out of after a while.
When the holes were finished they were filled with stones and then the concrete pillars.
To make the pillars there was a lot of concrete to mix up.
We measured out loads of stones and sand and took them up to the mixing area by the barrow load...
... it was hard work mixing the large batches of concrete by hand....
...and then we had to put it into the holes. We used a human chain to pass the concrete along to where it was needed ...
There were lots of things to prepare, including cutting, bending and tying the re-inforcing for the concrete pillars. Everyone joined in with this work.
Then it was all carefully put into place.
