What do we eat?

We love to eat and we love to share our food with others! We will always invite you in for food and would be hurt if you didn't accept, especially in the Manabi province.

We eat only what we produce ourselves (on the whole) but we have a rich and fertile land and a wide variety of fruit, vegetables, staples, meat and seafood.

Typical dishes include:

  • Ceviche - A cold fish/seafood soup with potatoes and onions and served with rice or popcorn.
  • Guatita - Tripe in peanut sauce.
  • BBQ'd Meat with rice and bean sauce.
  • Patacones - Plantain deep fat fried... twice!
  • Fresh fruit juices or smoothies.
  • Maize products like Humitas - Steam maize cake in banana leaves.
  • Llapingachos - Potato pancakes with cheese, usually eaten with fried eggs.
  • Kebabs - with meats and plantain.
  • Empanadas - Cornish pastie with either a chicken mix or cheese.
  • Maduros - Mature plantain which is sweeter - we grill this and serve with cheese/peanuts on top - a yummy snack!
  • Pan de Yuca - yucca bread made from yucca flour - a gooey bread.
