How do we travel?

We have buses, a lot of pick up trucks, some cars, motorbikes, bikes.

There is a tram in Quito.

We don't have trains (apart from one hair-raising trip called "The Devil's Nose").

Buses are crowded with people jumping on and off wherever, one guy calling out where the bus is going and hanging out the door. People jump on and off selling food and other items. You can pay a bit more for comfortable, scheduled only stops, bus between cities.

Hitching on people's pickup trucks is another favourite, especially in rural areas.
