REACH Romania Mission – (May 2003)
The latest mission by REACH Romania took place from May 22nd to June 2nd 2003. 7 people made up the team (Dr Stephen Brooke, Pastor Alan Mason, Pastor Peter Norris, Gillian Andersson, Val Goodwin, Helen Noyce and Geraldine). These 7 team members came from 6 different churches, mainly in the Swindon region.
Our chief focus was on village outreach, and we were able to reach into 2 villages, Movileni and Arbore, in new ways. In both of them we provided a medical clinic, supplying free medicines, from inside a tent in one village and from inside a gipsy church in the other. Meanwhile the rest of the team shared the Gospel through preaching and individual befriending and prayer.Stephen, Alan and Peter shared a programme of Bible teaching during 6 evenings in the Bible School. They based the teaching on the book of Galatians, looking from the perspectives of healthy living, Christian freedom and Christian truth respectively. We all enjoyed this shared ministry.We made visits to several children’s homes to encourage the staff, to give fresh fruit to the children, to ascertain and then subsidise various projects and to share the Gospel through song and testimony and preaching. We were able to visit the land which the Bible School has bought for the summer camps, and to hear about plans for building kitchen and toilet blocks there.Some of the team were able to visit new churches in a local village called Arbore and further afield in a large town named Iasi. They preached and encouraged the believers there and helped to foster relationships between Church and Bible School.Our final Sunday was delightfully occupied with the wedding of one of the Bible College staff, a nurse named Doina. We were privileged to provide music for parts of the wedding service and reception.We are still making arrangements to convey the dental surgery equipment to Romania which was due to travel at Easter but was obstructed at the last minute. We are also having to solve logistical problems which affect our shipping of medicines to Romania.The next mission to Romania is planned for November 8-16th 2003, and we are praying about a tent mission in the spring of 2004.
