Suceava Update... (Jun 2007)
Greetings from a hot Suceava! The beginning of this summer is very unusual –with very high temperatures, and severe drought in several parts of the country, where the crops are already compromised! We need God’s grace on our country!
Coming back from the States, there were a lot of things waiting for me here. One of the good things happening was the festival of sacred religious music “Agape” – organized by the district representatives of the Ministry of Culture. There were choirs, bands, instrumental groups, worship teams – a variety of music from Orthodox, Baptist, Brethren, Catholic, Pentecostal, Lord’s Army churches – including ourselves. It was really good – people appreciated it a lot.
A group of young people from several churches in Suceava organized a concert with a band –Vitamin C – from Bucharest, intended for the youth of Suceava. Due to the contemporary nature of the music, some of the church leaders opposed it – but we decided to support the effort of the young people, even financially, and encourage them to touch with the Gospel the youth of our city. More than 500 young people showed up, and it was good – the impressions they wrote at the end were really encouraging for those who organized.
We had the chance to invest a little more in the disabled children – took them to McDonalds for a wonderful morning, the weather was excellent, and after enjoying their Happy Meals, they had a great playground time! We also had some volunteers helping at their place, cleaning, painting, and installing drywall for their attic, where they fix a place for the ones older than 18. We plan to bring a number of children from the other place for disabled children, Gura Humorului (20 miles from our city), to McDonalds, some time soon.
We continue the construction of the new building. In about 2 weeks, we are promised to have the roof finished –which will be wonderful! Then we can continue with the interior work. Please keep us in prayer, as we will need more funds for that!
On the 26th of June, there is going to be “International Antidrug Day” – and we want to be part of it. There is a hip –hop band in Bucharest, they were all drug addicts before they were saved - and their songs are actually their testimonies! They were invited on a special show on national TV – they had a great testimony! So, we will have them here, in Suceava, on the 26 – believing many young people will come to hear about the saving power of God! We invite those who have attended the other events we had and left their addresses, and also advertise –radio, posters, hand invitations. It will create again some opposition from the religious people – but we believe it’s going to be good for the youth of Suceava. Please keep it in prayer.
One of the main events of the year is coming up in about 3 weeks –the Youth camp. We’ll have it close to Suceava (20 miles), and we believe it will be good. We usually have between 3 -500 young people coming – many expressed their interest to come this summer. There is a lot of work to put it together, but it is all worth it! It is a blessing to see them blessed, touched by God, lives changed – the wonderful work of the Lord! Please pray for favorable weather (July is a month with lots of rain and storms), God’s protection through everything and changed lives for the Kingdom of God!
