Easter Meditation - seven sayings from the cross

I Thirst.

John 19:28

This saying reminds us
of Jesus' complete sharing of our human life.
he suffered in all ways like us,
and of course, far more
for He was even abandoned for a time
by the Father
as he took the sins of the world upon Himself.
He is therefore able to be our companion
and assist us in all our situations in life.

Let me illustrate by a man who cannot swim being thrown into a lake.
What is the best word Confucious has for the sinking man?
'Profit by your experience.'
What is the message Buddha has for him?
'Struggle on.'
What is the most encouraging teaching of Hinduism?
'You may have another opportunity in the next incarnation.'
What does Mohammad say?
'Whether you sink or swim it is the will of Allah.'

And what does Jesus say?
'I know, I understand, take my hand.'"
