Easter Meditation - seven sayings from the cross

Father, into your hands I commit my Spirit.

Luke 23:46

James Stewart used to tell a story of a little girl whose last words
to her widowed father each night were
"Goodnight Father, I'll see you in the morning."

The little girl was struck with a severe illness and her last words to her father were,
"Goodnight Father, I'll see you in the morning."

Jesus' last words on the cross were similar.
"Father, into your hands I commit my Spirit."

These were words all Jewish boys learn
at their father's and mother's knee -
words of absolute trust -
nothing to fear.

On the third day He rose again so that
when our time comes we can say,
"Father, into your hands
I commit my spirit."

Into your hands I commit my Spirit
